I wanted to give everyone the heads-up that Nicole is coming back to the library in January to do another program for us.  She previously gave a great program about green smoothies, and in January, she’ll be presenting on Beating the Sugar Blues.    The program is on January 23rd at 7:00 pm in our Meeting Rooms.

Here’s the description:   Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner, Nicole Lazar, is back to teach you about sugar. This interactive presentation will discuss the relationship we have with sugar and understanding cravings, the effects it has on the body, and the pros and cons of sugar alternatives. Handouts will be provided detailing natural sweeteners, their benefits, and how they may be substituted for sugar in recipes.

Pretty cool, yes?  So if you’d like to learn about sugar, and see Nicole in action, registration is open!  You can click on the link above, which takes you right to the web calendar for this event.

Every year, when our Summer Reading programs have finished, we have programs and parties to celebrate Summer Read.    This year, the Adult/Teen Summer Read party will be on Friday, August 3rd from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.   There will be a special presentation, plenty of food and fun, and we’ll also be announcing the winners of our 4 raffle prizes.   We’ll also have a special door prize for party attendees, which will include a Nook Simple Touch, and some other goodies.   Winners of the raffle prizes do not need to be present at the party to win, but for the special door prize, winners must be present.
We are happy to announce that there will be a presentation by Kerry Keller, Director of the Bolingbrook School of Metaphysics.  He’s going to talk about dreams, and dream interpretation, and how our perception of dreams can be significant in our lives.

So please mark your calendars and join us for this great presentation, and for our Summer Read party on August 3rd!

Our Library’s Summer Read runs until July 27th, so there is still plenty of time to register (if you haven’t already), and log what you’ve been reading this summer.

If you log 3 books, you get a nice (and sturdy) shiny black & purple ceramic mug — and each book you log counts as a virtual raffle ticket.   We’ll have 4 big raffle prizes to award at the end of Summer Read, and each will include an iPod shuffle, books, audiobooks, DVDs, and more!!

When you log your books, you also have an opportunity to write a review of that book — and you can see what other readers have reviewed, as well.

For the full information on Summer Read, please visit our website at http://www.lislelibrary.org!

We would like to invite you and your family to participate in our Library’s 2012 Summer Reading programs.

Throughout June and July, there will be plenty of fun for all ages, with special Summer Reading Programs designed especially for Babies, Kids, Teens and Adults.  For our younger readers (and listeners), participants receive fun prizes for completing the program, including a book of their choice to keep.  Teens have their choice of two programs, or may register for both the Teen program and the Adult program.

For Adults, our Between the Covers program will offer some great raffle prizes, including books, DVDs, gift certificates, and more.  Read or listen to the minimum of three books and receive a dreamy, ceramic Library mug.  Log more than three books and increase your chances to win one of our raffle prizes at our Summer Read Party!

On Friday, August 3rd, our Adult Summer Read Party will be celebrated with fun, food, and prizes, including a special door prize.

Signup begins on Saturday, June 2nd at our slumber party-themed kickoff party, but you may sign up and participate at any time from June 2nd through Friday, July 27th.   We will have a special giveaway for patrons who sign up for the Adult/Teen program at the kickoff party, as well as a special raffle prize on that date.

For more information, please visit our website at www.lislelibrary.org or call us at 630-971-1675.

I saw this on John Scalzi’s blog, so passing it along to everyone — for his Chicago tour stop to promote his new book, Redshirts, he’ll be at the Wheeling Public Library on June 10th.

It is a FREE event, but the library is asking people to register — so if you’re planning on attending, please click THIS LINK to visit the library’s calendar page, and then click on the event for June 10th and register yourself.

The library’s request for registration makes total sense to me — they need to know how many people to set up for, etc., etc.   So, if you’re thinking you’re going to see John Scalzi on June 10th, please register.   Thank you!!

You know you want to see this man … in person…. up close
